Recentering in Sacred Purpose
The Creator's Statement as Spellsong
I’ve recently had to create a writer’s statement — something I’ve not done before, and something I found to be a bit of a challenge as neither brevity nor focus come easily to me. I am always working on multiple projects at the same time, which suits my neurospicyness quite well, but shifting my focus so frequently can sometimes muddy the waters of Purpose (with a capital “P”) for me. Challenging as it was, I found writing this statement to be very clarifying. I feel it is an encapsulation of where I stand at the moment, and something I can center into when the big picture of my Work (with a capital “W”) becomes obscured by the pressure of deadlines, the chaos and wonder of travel, the joys and challenges of experience, and the sparks of new Awen that come my way.
I encourage writers, artists, and all creators to engage in this process for yourself if you have not already done so. In addition to its utility as your agent in the world — a statement that defines your work, motivations, and process to those coming across it for the first time — it can also serve as a guidepost for your journey… a remembering of who you are and why you do what you do. I also believe that it can serve as a spellsong for creation — a directed and powerful tool to assist you in singing your vision and service into being. Like a cloutie or prayer ribbon hung in the trees beside a sacred well, the statement can be used as a manifestation of your intention — a vessel forged from devotion… a cup seeking to be filled with the creative essence of Divine Inspiration.

Once you have a Creator’s Statement, consider revisiting it periodically, and updating it accordingly. Not only does this keep your statement current, but it provides you with an opportunity for personal reflection. Use it as a means to track your growth as a creator, to acknowledge your shifts in focus and perspective, and recognize the evolution of your work in the world.
Here is my own statement as it currently stands. I thought it was appropriate to share as I seek to kindle this Substack space anew… so, please allow me to tie my ribbon here — a symbol of intention for my work, and an renewed introduction to friends and followers old and new. Thank you for sharing this space with me — and I hope you’ve been inspired to write a spellsong of your own!
Writer’s Statement - Jhenah Telyndru
Embracing psycho-spiritual and mythopoetic perspectives, I approach Welsh legends and Arthurian Tradition not simply as stories, but as living mythic landscapes that speak to the soul. Through tale, symbol, and archetype, my work explores the sacred as an initiatory journey rather than a historical reconstruction alone. Approaching Otherworldly figures such as Ceridwen, the Lady of the Lake, and the Nine Sisters of Avalon as gateways into deeper spiritual truths allows myth to function as catalytic vessels of transformation. By weaving scholarship with practice and devotion, my work invites seekers to enter the mythic currents for themselves and experience Avalon, Awen, and the Feminine Divine as inner, unfolding mysteries.

What a wonderful reminder. I love the statement of tying your ribbon to set your intention for this space. Looking forward to reading more 🙏
